Tips for Under Water Detecting

Under water metal detecting can be a very fun experience, and one that can really spice up your life if you’re bored with land detecting. But you need to think about many more things while you are detecting under water than while you are detecting on land. There are several tools and tips you need to have the optimum under water experience. There are hazards in the water that you don’t need to think about on land, and also different tools that will help you uncover and store your finds while in the water.
First of all, you need a good under water metal detector that works in both salt and freshwater. You also need a mesh bag that straps around your waist or otherwise attaches to you. This will keep your finds safe from floating away. A long-handled trowel is good to have, as you can skin your knuckles on coral or rocks if you get too close to them while digging. Be sure to use a good quality waterproof sunscreen to keep from getting burned, and also drink plenty of water, since being in the water and sun all day can dehydrate you. Also, wear a bright hat and bright clothes, or attach a brightly colored floating buoy to yourself to alert boaters of your presence.
