Metal Detecting Is a Family Affair

It’s a common misconception that metal detecting enthusiasts are loners and eccentrics. While you might witness the occasional character combing nearby beaches for buried treasure, many of us are just hobbyists with a passion for exploration. I like to turn metal detecting into a social activity by throwing a Headhunter Pirate metal detector into the back of the family van.
That way, whenever we have some downtime on a camping vacation we can lug out the detector and scan the premises for hidden items of value. My son and daughter both enjoy detecting, and we trade off between someone holding the detector and the others looking for visible clues along the ground. When they were younger I even created elaborate treasure maps and buried some goodies out in the woods for them to find with their wits and a trusty metal detector.
